Our access to safe and legal
abortion is being threatened with the recent anti-choice bills
passed in a number of states. Reproductive justice expert, Bianca
Laureano, gives us a deeper look at abortion policy & procedure in
the US. In this conversation, she helps us understand harmful ways lawmakers have
chipped away access to abortion and quality reproductive care with
things like parental consent, approval waiting period, and the myth
of the partial-birth abortion. We learn what goes into an abortion
procedure and how to provide care for those going through it.
Bianca breaks down the differences between the reproductive rights
movement, the reproductive justice movement, and the reproductive
health movement and why their differences matter. We discuss why
the gendered language of the reproductive rights movement is
harmful and how to be more inclusive, the real motivations behind
the pro-life movement including these recent restrictive bills &
laws (spoiler: it’s not about preserving life), and much more. This
is an important and timely conversation.
